DESCRIPTION:Join Lan Su to celebrate Asian American\, Native Hawaiian\, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month! In partnership with more than 20 local cultural organizations\, performers\, and artists\, we explore the history\, traditions\, and arts that make up the rich cultural tapestry of AANHPI. \n\n\n\nEvery May\, we highlight the stories\, the culture\, and the expressions of our AANHPI communities. Enjoy a display of traditional outfits\, cultural performances\, vendors from local AANHPI communities\, educational talks\, and demonstrations\, while learning all about these different cultures and traditions. We hope everyone will join us in celebrating our cultural diversity! \n\n\n\nPopular Programs\n\n\n\nBelow are some examples of AANHPI Heritage Month festivities at Lan Su Chinese Garden. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThreading Together – Traditional Attire Exhibit\n\n\n\nMay 1 – June 21 \n\n\n\nClothing and attire are among the more visible elements of culture that tell stories about a place’s heritage and history. From design to color and pattern\, these pieces can also serve as symbols of significant cultural elements. Threading Together is an exhibit showcasing 7-10 traditional outfits from local AANHPI community members that narrate the stories of their diverse and rich cultural heritage. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCultural Immersion Saturdays\n\n\n\nMay 9\,16\, 23\, & 30 \n\n\n\nEach “Cultural Immersion Saturday” showcases one or more AANHPI cultures\, highlighting unique cultural elements that hold significance within their communities. Lan Su collaborates with various cultural organizations\, providing the garden as a platform for cultural performances\, educational talks\, and interactive family activities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMother’s Day at Lan Su \n\n\n\nMay 10 \n\n\n\nMake this Mother’s Day unforgettable at Lan Su\, with a day filled with blossoms\, tea\, and cultural experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOregon Rises Above Hate (ORAH) \n\n\n\nMay 2 \n\n\n\nSince March 16\, 2021\, when news of the Atlanta shootings broke\, Lan Su Chinese Garden has worked with community leaders to take swift action—convening dozens of partners within a week and launching the first response event in under two months. \n\n\n\nDespite pandemic challenges\, this effort has grown into an annual gathering that fosters resilience and unity—sharing resources\, amplifying community events\, raising awareness\, and celebrating the diversity of the AANHPI community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParking & Directions\n\n\n\nFree Lan Su Parking\n\n\n\nThere is free first come\, first served parking in our sister lot next to the garden at 424 NW Third Avenue. DESCRIPTION:Explore the flavors of home with culinary expert Anna in a Chinese cooking demonstration featuring simple\, authentic dishes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11 AM – 12:30 PM | Every 2nd Saturday\, May 23 – December 12\, 2026 \n\n\n\nFood in Chinese culture is more than nourishment—it is culture\, history\, and a vital medium for social connection\, care\, and love. It plays an essential role in both festive celebrations and everyday life. We warmly invite you to join this Chinese cooking demonstration led by culinary expert Anna. She will demonstrate how to use locally sourced ingredients to create simple\, authentic homestyle dishes that capture the true flavors of home. \n\n\n\n\nGet Admission\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeatured at the event: The Asian Food Pantry (AFP) Cookbook — a culturally inspired collection of recipes using ingredients commonly distributed through the pantry over the past six years. Cookbooks will be available for purchase\, with all proceeds supporting the Asian Food Pantry and its work serving low-income Asian seniors in our community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Demonstrator: \n\n\n\nAnna Xu is a passionate baker and home cook\, known for her expertise in traditional Shanghainese cuisine as well as Western pastries. She is the author of The Taste of Home\, Where The Heart Belongs 家的味道，心的归属\, a bi-lingual cookbook that celebrates the emotional connections we build through food and a fundraising initiative that supports the pantry’s mission. Anna also leads the Asian Food Pantry program at the Community for Positive Aging (Hollywood Senior Center)\, where she supports low-income Asian seniors by providing culturally familiar foods and fostering community connection.
