Join us for an opening reception for exhibitions by Maihwa 'Frances' Li & Jiyu Yang. Their work will be on display in the Scholar's Study and Reflections in Clear Ripples pavilions in the garden through January. Enjoy light refreshments and have an opportunity to meet the artists!

Maihwa ‘Frances’ Li was born in China and grew up in Taiwan, where she learned traditional Chinese watercolor painting. Frances taught Chinese painting in secondary schools, community colleges, and Chinese schools throughout the U.S, and now teaches with the Portland Parks and Recreation Senior program. Her paintings have been displayed and collected throughout the U.S. and internationally. New York State Museum named Frances Woman of Art in 1988, and she is in the artist section of the “Who’s Who.” Frances uses a variety of medium—oil, acrylic, and pastel. Her art depicts different subjects, from flowers, animals, and landscape.
Dr. Jiyu Yang received his doctorate degree of education from The University of Northern Iowa. Currently he teaches music, and leads the Orchids and Bamboo Ensemble in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Yang also serves as Head of the Wisdom Arts Academy and is one of the standing directors of the Oregon Chinese Art Association. He is frequently invited to lecture on Chinese art, music, calligraphy and poetry at the universities and colleges in Portland and South Washington State. He is a multi-talented Chinese scholar in the United States. He is an excellent Chinese musician, calligrapher and brush painter.
