Join Taiwanese artist, Amy Tsai, as she demonstrates traditional “Lingnan” style brush painting techniques on a variety of ceramic objects. The Lingnan School style catches the eye with bright colors, bold strokes, and unique manipulations of blank space. Rather being overly meticulous, this particular style relies on its freehand brushwork to characterize striking outlines and vivid expression.

Born in 1987 in Taipei, Taiwan, Amy Tsai has been interested in Chinese arts since she was a little girl. She first discovered Chinese brush painting in Yingge, a small town in northern Taiwan that is famous for its porcelain and ceramic arts. After years of practice, Amy now focuses on the Lingnan School of brush painting, a revolutionary and innovative take on traditional Chinese painting.
Lan Su hosts several artists each year, from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, to show work in the pavilions of the garden. From classical Chinese styles to contemporary work, each show offers a new experience of Lan Su Yuan.
