Lan Su Chinese Garden and Asia America are partnering in July to showcase a series of antiques as well as artwork from artist Ningshu Fang.
Traditionally thought of as dark and heavy with a great deal of ornate carving, the Chinese furniture in this partner display is more vibrant in color and are hand painted pieces that you would find in the countryside homes of rural China around 100 years ago.
These pieces pair well with the work of artist Ningshu Fang whose art is a modern approach to pastoral scenes in rural China expressed in vivid color. In this modern age of digital communication, Ningshu hopes that you find nostalgic connection between your own memories and her work. She was thrust into the traditional Chinese education system in Shanghai as young child but kept her dream of becoming an artist alive. She would still draw and paint from time to time with the encouragement of her grandmother. As each of these pieces makes her rediscover what is truly meaningful to her, she hopes that they conjure memories of what is most valuable to you as well.
All items on display are available for purchase through the Garden Shop.
