AANHPI Heritage Month – Celebrate Our Stories!
Join Lan Su to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month! In partnership with more than 20 local cultural organizations, performers, and artists, we explore the history, traditions, and arts that make up the rich cultural tapestry of AANHPI.
Every May, we highlight the stories, the culture, and the expressions of our AANHPI communities. Enjoy a display of traditional outfits, cultural performances, vendors from local AANHPI communities, educational talks, and demonstrations, while learning all about these different cultures and traditions. We hope everyone will join us in celebrating our cultural diversity!

Below are some examples of AANHPI Heritage Month festivities at Lan Su Chinese Garden.
Threading Together – Traditional Attire Exhibit
Clothing and attire are among the more visible elements of culture that tell stories about a place’s heritage and history. From design to color and pattern, these pieces can also serve as symbols of significant cultural elements. Threading Together is an exhibit showcasing 7-10 traditional outfits from local AANHPI community members that narrate the stories of their diverse and rich cultural heritage.
Cultural Immersion Saturdays
Each “Cultural Immersion Saturday” showcases one or more AANHPI cultures, highlighting unique cultural elements that hold significance within their communities. Lan Su collaborates with various cultural organizations, providing the garden as a platform for cultural performances, educational talks, and interactive family activities.
Oregon Rises Above Hate (ORAH)
Since March 16, 2021, when news broke about the tragic Atlanta shootings, Lan Su Chinese Garden has partnered with community leaders to take immediate action. Within a week, dozens of leaders were convened, and in less than two months, the first event was launched in response to the tragedy.
Despite challenges from the pandemic, such as shifting locations and fluctuating attendance, the event continued, demonstrating the strength and solidarity of the AANHPI community. Since then, this partnership has grown into a powerful annual gathering that fosters resilience and unity by sharing information, highlighting community events, raising awareness, and celebrating the rich diversity of the community.
