Evening Excitement
Fire Dance by Paradise of Samoa
The highlight of the evening will be a 30-minute fire dance performance by our friends in Paradise of Samoa Polynesian Dance Troupe, starting around 8:30 PM.
In case of rain, we have another exciting performance planned!

DIY Mid-Autumn Lantern
Build a remarkable lantern decorated with Mid-Autumn symbols and phrases that cast into shadows around the piece. Volunteers will be on hand to help with assembly. Lanterns can be purchased in advance or day-of.
Some of the iconic Mid-Autumn symbols pictured on the lantern include rabbits, mooncakes, and full moons. The shadows and light below share traditional holiday greetings: “Happy Mid-Autumn!” and “Flowers at their best, and the moon at its fullest.”
* Activity has an additional cost ($10 in advance, $15 in person)
Moon Goddess Photo Op
Create a memory in front of our full moon backdrop alongside the Moon Goddess, Chang’e, and her rabbit companion. Chang’e will be played by costumed volunteers that bring the legend to life for visitors.

Moonlit Melodies with Shoko Oba & Yuki LaBeaux
Enjoy the gentle sounds of shinobue—the Japanese bamboo flute—dancing through the winding garden paths. This special Mid-Autumn Night Out performance is led by two members of Portland’s beloved Japanese music and dance ensemble, Takohachi.
Shoko Oba
Shoko Oba was born and raised in Japan. Since joining Takohachi in 2011, Shoko actively performs as one of the advanced team, Q-Ensemble, established in 2018. She studies tsugaru shamisen under Yumi Torimaru and Shinobue from a world-renowned shinobue player, Yasukazu Kano. Shoko enjoys playing and sharing Japanese music with people in our communities and the world!
