Enjoy traditional Southern-style lion dance performances by Portland Lee’s Association, filled with leaping lions, drum beats, and cymbals. Don’t miss the whimsical enjoyment these playful lions bring to guests of all ages as they make their way through the garden! Stay after the performance for a photo opportunity with the performers.
The lion dance (Wǔshi, 舞獅) is one of the oldest and most recognizable traditions in Chinese culture. Combining martial arts, music, dance, storytelling, and craftsmanship, it has been performed for more than 1,000 years to celebrate important milestones and bring communities together.
About the Performers
The Portland Lee’s Association Dragon & Lion Dance Team has performed at thousands of events and is in great demand for performances throughout the year. The lion dance team was founded in April 2004 and currently performs both dragon and lion dances under the direction of Head Coach Terry Lee, assisted by Coach Eric Lee and Coach Nick Lee. The group’s history, rooted in the Lee Family Association, goes all the way back to the 1880s, highlighting their deep dedication to Chinese cultural traditions.
