Lion Reborn invites you to explore the rich history of one of China’s most beloved traditions: the lion dance. From August 25 – November 1, immerse yourself in the work of local artists Joshua Sin and Lark Pien as you wander the paths of Lan Su. Come get inspired and see how these traditions endure today!
Join us for two action-packed weekends filled with lion dance performances, workshops, and family-friendly arts & crafts. Learn how kung fu shapes lion dance movements, meet the dancers behind the lions, and get creative with hands-on activities.
Don’t miss the incredibly rare opportunity to experience a Japanese-style lion dance at Lan Su! Portland Shishimai Kai will introduce shishimai, the traditional Japanese lion dance. There will be a discussion about the history and significance of this art form followed by a Q&A session and some hands-on teaching of movements.
Enjoy free face painting or body art with lion dance designs! Local artist Adrienne Hentschel of Strawberry Paint Shop will be on site to deliver colorful works of art you can wear home and show off!
