The fragrance of Osmanthus and Katsura fill the air as the weather cools and we savor the last warm sunny days of the year. I hope you are ready for some stunning colors at the garden.
November calls for Celebration of the Chrysanthemum. We will be featuring Lan Su’s very own Chrysanthemum collection grown by Lan Su staff and volunteers. This year a very special Chrysanthemum penjing exhibit will be displayed in the garden featuring penjing from the collections of Michael Babbit, Ellen Bartholomew, Tony Hackenbruck, Sidne Lewis, and Mark Vossbrink. Penjing is the Chinese version of bonsai with over 2500 years of history. There will also be chrysanthemum floral design pieces on display in the garden and chrysanthemum-themed wellness and cultivation programs from November 1st to the 21st, Come celebrate the enduring symbol of autumn and a unique art form rarely seen in the U.S!
Autumn is probably my favorite time of year to see the garden, as the leaves change color and fragrance permeates the air. Sitting under a the big red umbrellas in front of the tea house sipping sen-matcha and dumplings on a rainy day. Catching sporadic bloom of anemone and begonia, the fruits of the persimmon and pomegranate in anticipation of the winter blooms of winter sweet and plum just around the corner! There are many surprises await at Lan Su. See you there.
