Maihwa ‘Frances’ Li was born in China and grew up in Taiwan, where she learned traditional Chinese watercolor painting. Frances taught Chinese painting in secondary schools, community colleges, and Chinese schools throughout the U.S, and now teaches with the Portland Parks and Recreation Senior program. Her paintings have been displayed and collected throughout the U.S. and internationally. New York State Museum named Frances Woman of Art in 1988, and she is in the artist section of the “Who’s Who.” Frances uses a variety of medium—oil, acrylic, and pastel. Her art depicts different subjects, from flowers, animals, and landscape.
